Plenty of people without password managers end up forgetting their passwords. This is especially common if your passwords are complex. If you forget your LinkedIn password, you can always recover it. You can also recover your username if you forget it. You may not be able to recover the exact password you lost but you will be able to continue using your account by resetting a different one. The process is simple and it only takes a short time.

Recovering Your Account

  • Go to LinkedIn's website and click on the option 'Forgot Password' locate beside the option 'Sign In.'
  • You will receive an email from LinkedIn. Click on the provided link to reset your password. You may also receive an SMS message containing the reset PIN if you used your phone number.
  • Enter the PIN provided to reset your password
  • If the link you received via email does not work, copy and paste the URL to the address bar of your browser.
  • If you intend to change the password because you think your account may have been compromised, check on the option 'Require all devices to sign in with a new password.' This way, you will be logged out of other devices.

LinkedIn allows you to reset your username and password whenever your account is compromised or you forget it. For the security of your account, you are allowed to add at least one extra email address to your account. This way, you can reset your password if your primary address is hacked. When you reset your password, the information is sent to the other email addresses.

If you only have one email address and it is deactivated or inaccessible, it can be difficult to recover your account when you need to. Your reset information will be sent to your email address even though you cannot access it. You will, therefore, have no way of resetting your password. If you have more than one accounts, you can merge them and continue to use the same email address.

Recovering Your Account Without the Primary Email Address

Even though it can be difficult to recover your account if your primary address is inaccessible, it is not impossible. If you are like most people, you probably have only one email address that you are dependent on. Most people prefer to use just one email account even though it is not a good idea. If, for example, you used your work email, it may be deactivated when you stop working there.

In such instances, you would be required to use a special form that LinkedIn creates specifically for this purpose. On that form, you will find a link. Click on it to access and submit your form.

The form will require you to enter a valid email address. You will use it to get through the recovery process. The address you choose should be one that you can access. Use the 'Browse' option to attach any documents that may help you prove your identity. You should be able to prove that you own the account you are trying to recover.

If you do not remember both your password and email you used for your account, you need to go through a verification process. Use your profile URL when requested for your account's email address.

If you have forgotten your username, recovering it is simple. Move your cursor over Profile on your homepage and click on the option Edit profile. There will be a link under your profile photo. Click on the settings option next to the link. If you don't have a public profile, use the option 'update your public profile settings.'
